The University of Bergen is offering a fully funded PhD position in Geochemistry and Microbiology within the Department of Earth Science, located in Bergen, Norway. This opportunity is part of the InFluSe project, which investigates natural hydrocarbon seepage in the Norwegian North Sea using advanced remote sensing, geophysical, and geochemical techniques. The project aims to better understand subsurface hydrocarbon migration pathways, their emission rates, environmental impacts, and implications for both hydrocarbons and stored CO₂.

The successful candidate will focus on basin-wide migration pathways in the southern Norwegian North Sea, utilizing both newly acquired and existing fluid samples from wells and scientific cruises. The research will involve participation in a research cruise, ROV operations, sediment core analysis, and the study of seep-related ecosystems. The position offers a multidisciplinary environment, working alongside experts in sedimentology, marine geology, remote sensing, geophysics, and geochemistry.
