Tilburg University’s Department of Information Systems & Operations Management (ISOM) at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management is offering two fully funded PhD positions starting September 2026. The positions are in Information Systems and Operations Management, with research topics including digital transformation, AI, blockchain, digital platforms, and the strategic, tactical, and operational design of organizational systems. The department is recognized as one of Europe’s top 10 ISOM research groups, with strong links to interdisciplinary research centers, NGOs, and industry partners.

PhD candidates will join the CentER Graduate School of Business, enrolling in a world-class PhD program with extensive training in theory and methods, including information systems, operations management, econometrics, machine learning, data analytics, and qualitative research methods. The program is designed to be flexible and tailored to the candidate’s background, with a focus on rigorous, empirically grounded research. Candidates will work closely with two appointed advisors, developing their own research agenda and aiming to publish in leading academic journals.

Applicants must have a Master’s, MPhil, or Research Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business analytics, economics, econometrics, supply chain management, operations research, computer science, or statistics. A strong quantitative background and proficiency in programming (R, SQL, Python, or similar) are required. English proficiency must be demonstrated by standardized test scores unless exempted. Candidates should have an excellent academic record (top 10% of class as a guideline).

The positions are fully salaried under Dutch labor law, with a gross monthly salary ranging from €3059 to €3881, plus 8% vacation pay, 8.3% year-end bonus, over 8 weeks of vacation, hybrid working options, home and internet allowances, sustainable commuting reimbursement, pension, moving allowance, and a 30% tax rule for international employees (if applicable). A travel budget is available for conferences and external courses.

To apply, candidates must submit a motivation letter, a two-page research proposal, CV, transcripts, thesis or research output, references, and proof of English proficiency. The application deadline is 31 January 2026. For questions, contact Dr. Melvin Drent at [email protected]. More information and application links are available at the ISOM department’s LinkedIn and Tilburg University’s job portal.
