The INSAIT Graduate Research Fellowship is a prestigious, fully funded opportunity for highly motivated Master’s students and recent graduates to engage in advanced research in computer science and artificial intelligence at the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) in Sofia, Bulgaria. The program is modeled after successful research fellowships at leading institutions such as MIT, Caltech, and ETH Zurich, and offers participants the chance to work closely with world-class faculty on cutting-edge projects. Research areas include computer science, artificial intelligence, statistics, mathematics, and electrical engineering, with a strong emphasis on producing publishable research and contributing to top conferences and journals.

The fellowship spans 6–12 months, with the exact duration determined between the student and their mentor. All research must be conducted in person at INSAIT; remote participation is not allowed. Fellows receive a competitive monthly stipend of €3,307, comprehensive travel and visa support, and two weeks of fully paid accommodation upon arrival to help with settling in. The program is open to current Master’s students and those who have graduated within the last 12 months from an accredited university, with eligible majors including computer science, electrical engineering, statistics, or mathematics. INSAIT especially encourages applications from female students and other groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

Throughout the program, fellows are expected to develop a project plan with their mentor, deliver a final report structured as a conference paper, and present their work as part of the INSAIT seminar series. Applications are accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis, and candidates are notified of the outcome within one month of applying.
