Assistant Professor Ladan Mozaffarian at the University of Oklahoma is seeking a motivated PhD student to join a research team in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design (PLAD).

The opportunity is centered on urban and regional planning, transportation planning and infrastructure, public health, GIS, spatial analysis, machine learning, GeoAI, computational methods, quantitative analysis, and data visualization. The research focus is on the links between transportation systems and public health outcomes, making this a strong fit for students interested in data-driven, interdisciplinary planning research.

The position begins on August 17, 2026 and is supported through the academic year ending May 15, 2027, with anticipated support for up to four years. Funding includes a $20,600 annual stipend paid over 20 biweekly periods and a Qualifying Graduate Assistantship that provides a full tuition waiver for enrolled hours; fees are not included.

Applicants should have strong GIS and spatial analysis experience, advanced computational and quantitative skills, proficiency or strong interest in machine learning and GeoAI, some coding experience, and a clear research interest in transportation and public health.
