The Institute for European Law at KU Leuven offers a full-time PhD position focused on advanced research in European Union Law, with particular emphasis on constitutional questions. The Institute is renowned for its international-level research covering all fields of EU constitutional law, including law-making, judicial protection, fundamental rights, and topical issues such as the economic and monetary union, social law, the internal market, the area of freedom, security and justice, defence, and criminal law. The core responsibility of the position is to conduct doctoral research within the areas of expertise of the Institute for European Law. Doctoral researchers are also expected to support teaching activities, including preparing classes, exams, tutorials, supervising essays and theses, and coaching moot courts. Most activities are based in Leuven, with some teaching in Hasselt. The Institute values active engagement in its research community and encourages participation in ongoing projects and academic events.
Applicants must demonstrate full proficiency in English and hold a Master in Law with a strong focus on European Union Law. High academic grades, relevant international experience, an LL.M., and/or excellent knowledge of Dutch are considered assets.
