About this position

The University of Strasbourg is offering a fully funded PhD position in the SOMHet team (Laboratory for Therapeutic Innovation, LIT – UMR 7042) starting October 2026. The research focuses on expanding the molecular diversity of N,S-heterocycles via the Doyle–Kirmse reaction, with applications in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. The project aims to develop new N,S-heterocyclic architectures, design asymmetric synthetic strategies, and apply metal-catalyzed methodologies for C–C, C–N, and C–S bond formation. Continuous flow chemistry will be implemented to safely handle diazo reagents, broadening the chemical space for pharmaceutical applications.

The SOMHet group, led by Dr. Mihaela Gulea, is part of the Laboratory for Therapeutic Innovation at the University of Strasbourg, a top-ranked institution in chemistry. The team specializes in organometallic catalysis, heterochemistry, and the development of new bioactive molecules. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, with collaborations across France and Europe, and is supported by the ANR PRME (DiverCycloNS) grant.

Applicants should have a strong background in organic chemistry, with interests in metal catalysis, molecular chemistry, flow chemistry, and mechanistic studies. Experience in synthetic methodology is highly valued. The position offers an excellent opportunity for those passionate about innovative research in synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

To apply, candidates must submit a single PDF including a detailed CV, a one-page cover letter, university transcripts for M1 and M2, and contact details for two references to Dr. Mihaela Gulea ([email protected]) by 20 April 2026. For more information, visit the SOMHet group page or the project link provided.
