About this position

Description

Are you passionate about cutting-edge research on designing safer, more resilient structures to withstand earthquakes? Do you want to be part of a team pushing the boundaries of Structural and Earthquake Engineering?

We are seeking highly motivated PhD candidates to work on research projects which are focused on the seismic performance of bridges and unreinforced masonry structures. Based on your background, you will investigate numerically and experimentally the seismic behaviour of novel rocking bridge configurations, or you will examine the dynamic behaviour and retrofit of unreinforced masonry structures from an analytical, numerical, and experimental perspective.

Candidate Requirements

·      A strong academic background (with a high GPA) in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field (Master’s degree preferred).

·      Programming skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python) and/or familiarity with numerical modelling software (e.g. Abaqus, OpenSees, 3DEC) are desirable.

·      Passionate and self-motivated with good time management skills.

·      Strong problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.

·      Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Funding

International candidates with a high GPA will compete for a University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship . The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of $34,569 (NZD) per annum with an annual CPI adjustment to the stipend value for up to 36 months. While in receipt of the scholarship, the University will cover tuition, student services fees, and single student health insurance. A further six months of scholarship funding may be available following the initial scholarship.

Candidates from China are encouraged to apply for a Scholarship developed in collaboration with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) .
