The Institute for European Law at KU Leuven is renowned for its advanced research in European Union law, with a particular emphasis on constitutional questions. The Institute's research encompasses all fields of EU constitutional law, including law-making, judicial protection, and fundamental rights, as well as substantive law areas such as the economic and monetary union, social law, the internal market, the area of freedom, security and justice, defence, and criminal law. The Institute also offers a wide range of courses on EU law, from introductory lectures and tutorials for bachelor students to advanced courses covering EU Constitutional Law, Judicial Protection in the EU, External Relations of the EU, EU Fundamental Rights Law and Policy, and EU Migration Law.

This PhD position is designed for candidates eager to conduct doctoral research in EU Law, specifically within the areas of expertise covered by the Institute for European Law. The successful candidate will actively engage in the Institute's research activities and provide support to its teaching functions. Responsibilities include assisting professors in class preparation, exam development, teaching tutorials, supervising essays and theses, and coaching moot courts, primarily in Leuven and occasionally in Hasselt.

Applicants must demonstrate full proficiency in Dutch and possess a Master in Law with a strong focus on European Union Law. High academic grades, international degrees or experiences, and demonstrable knowledge or experience in the field are required. An LL.M. and/or excellent command of English are considered assets.
