This PhD position is offered at the Institute of Cellular Virology, University Hospital Münster, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mario Schelhaas.

The institute is part of the Centre of Molecular Biology of Inflammation, providing a vibrant and internationally recognized research environment with strong collaborations across Europe and the USA. The research program focuses on host-pathogen interactions, specifically the cell biological mechanisms underlying the infection and cell entry of small DNA tumor viruses. The laboratory employs a range of cellular and molecular techniques, including super-resolution microscopy, systems biology approaches, and advanced imaging in live cells, organoids, and organisms.

The successful candidate will investigate how viruses hijack cellular processes such as signaling, membrane trafficking, nuclear import/export, and mitosis, and how factors like cell differentiation, immune conditions, superinfections, and aging influence infection outcomes. Applicants should have an MSc in Cell Biology, Virology, or a related field, with a strong background in cell biology or virology, and proficiency in English. Experience in live cell microscopy, superresolution microscopy, computational image analysis, and complex cell cultures is advantageous. Candidates must be fully vaccinated against measles.

The position is part-time (65%, 25 hours/week), fixed-term for three years, and funded according to TV-L E 13 salary scale.
