Queen's University Belfast is offering two Department for the Economy studentships for international PhD students interested in cutting-edge research on Enterobacter infections. The project, led by Professor Miguel A. Valvano, focuses on understanding how Enterobacter clinical isolates survive within human macrophages. Recent discoveries in the lab have shown that Enterobacter can hide inside macrophages, remaining dormant and evading both immune responses and antibiotic treatments. Applicants must be full-time international Postgraduate Taught students enrolled at Queen’s University Belfast between 1 October 2024 and 31 January 2026, and subject to international tuition fees. A strong background in microbiology, cell biology, or related fields is preferred, and experience with confocal microscopy, bacterial genetics, or infectious disease research will be advantageous.
