Description

This PhD position is part of the SSUWAI project at Université Marie et Louis Pasteur, focusing on the development of an agent-based digital twin for simulation and event prediction in the operating room. The overarching goal is to anticipate and prevent adverse events during surgical procedures by enhancing an existing multi-agent simulator. The project involves several key objectives: establishing a real-time connection between the simulator and operating room sensors, implementing advanced data acquisition and processing algorithms, developing forecasting algorithms to predict adverse events, and creating alert systems to notify staff of risky situations. The use of artificial intelligence to optimize event anticipation is a central research question. The successful candidate will begin with a comprehensive review of the scientific literature, followed by the technical development and integration of new features into the simulator. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining computer science, healthcare technology, and AI, and offers the opportunity to work closely with both academic and clinical partners. The position is fully funded with a competitive salary of 41,000€/year through the EU Interreg programme. Applicants should have a Master's degree in computer science or a related field, strong English skills, and ideally experience with multi-agent systems. The position is based in Besançon, France, with a start date of January 1, 2026. The application deadline is December 4, 2025. For more information or to apply, candidates should contact Dr. Christophe Lang at Christophe.lang@univ-fcomte.fr.
