About this position

This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers an exciting opportunity to join a laboratory at the forefront of spatial transcriptomics and host-microbiome interaction research. The lab has received prestigious grants, including ERC Synergy, to investigate spatial-level interactions in the colon and the impact of spaceflight on brain gene expression, supported by the Swedish Research Council and Swedish National Space Agency. The research focus is on bioinformatics analysis of spatial gene expression data and other modalities such as microbiome, metabolites, and proteins, using advanced methods like Spatial Transcriptomics (ST), Spatial metaTranscriptomics (SmT), spatial mass spectrometry, and CellScape in both animal and plant tissues. Single-cell multiomics will also be applied, with a strong computational emphasis throughout the projects.

The postdoctoral fellow will be based at the Department of Gene Technology, SciLifeLab (Science for Life Laboratory) in Stockholm, supervised by Associate Professor Stefania Giacomello. The role involves leading and developing independent research projects, designing and interpreting computational analyses, ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility, preparing and submitting manuscripts, presenting results at international conferences, contributing to review and perspective articles, coordinating with national and international collaborators, managing project timelines, contributing to grant writing, possibly applying for independent scholarships, supervising doctoral and/or master students, and promoting a collaborative laboratory culture.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree, completed by the time of employment decision. Preferred candidates will have obtained their doctoral degree within the last three years and possess experience in Spatial Transcriptomics and spatial mass spectrometry data analysis. Essential skills include research expertise, teaching abilities, awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues (especially gender equality), collaborative and independent working abilities, organizational skills, professionalism, analytical skills for complex issues, and proficiency in English with strong presentation skills. Personal skills are highly valued.
