About this position

University of Glasgow is advertising two postdoctoral researchers in chemical biology and peptide discovery within Professor Andrew Jamieson’s research group. The project is titled “Iterative simulation, artificial intelligence and machine learning-guided design of cyclic peptide aptamers based on structural characterisation of alpha-conotoxin/nAChR interactions” and sits at the interface of biology, chemistry, computer science, and biomedical engineering.

One role focuses on membrane protein biochemistry and biophysics, including isolation, stabilisation, and characterisation of membrane receptors, especially ligand-gated ion channels such as nAChRs. The second role focuses on mRNA display and peptide discovery, driving the discovery of novel macrocyclic peptide ligands using library screening, target presentation, and NGS-guided selection analysis.

Ideal candidates will have strong postdoctoral-level research experience and evidence of the essential skills listed in the advert. For the membrane protein role, this includes membrane protein purification/stabilisation, quantitative binding assays (SPR, FP), tissue and membrane preparation, and familiarity with structural biology and protein characterisation. For the mRNA display role, this includes mRNA display, cyclic peptide library selection, molecular biology, NGS bioinformatics, and peptide synthesis/characterisation (SPPS).

The positions are embedded in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with links to spin-out activities and international partners. The mRNA display post is funded until 30 April 2027 in the first instance. Salary is Grade 7: £41,064–£46,049 per annum. The post may be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

Deadline: 11 May 2026 at 23:45. Applicants should apply online via the University of Glasgow jobs portal and ensure their application clearly demonstrates how they meet the essential criteria.
