We’re inviting applications for a PhD scholarship focused on one of the UK’s most pressing sustainability challenges: How multi-stakeholder networks can drive decarbonisation for construction SMEs in the UK ???

Supervisored by myself along with Dr Valerio Ficcadenti , project starting September 2025

Project Overview:
The construction sector contributes ~40% of the UK’s carbon emissions. With 99.7% of firms being SMEs, this project explores how multi-stakeholder networks—clients, contractors, regulators, and academia—can help SMEs overcome barriers to sustainability and transition to low-carbon practices.

The research will involve qualitative interviews and thematic analysis to develop a collaborative framework that supports SME decarbonisation, aligning with the UK’s Net Zero Strategy and UN SDG 13: Climate Action.

We’re looking for a motivated candidate with:
- A background in channel or trade marketing, or similar
- An interest in qualitative research (e.g. semi-structured interviews, thematic analysis)
