Postdoctoral Researcher in Agricultural Diversification, Ecology, and Sustainability at University of Hohenheim

The Department of Ecology of Tropical Agricultural Systems at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, is offering a postdoctoral research position focused on investigating the long-term benefits of agricultural diversification for ecological and social sustainability. The successful candidate will join an international research collaboration led by Prof. Ingo Grass and work closely with other renowned scientists, including Prof. Claire Kremen, Prof. Laura Vang Rasmussen, and Prof. Zia Mehrabi. The research will build on recent work recognized with the 2025 Frontiers Planet Prize for their Science paper on the environmental and social benefits of diversified agriculture. The position is fully funded for two years, with a 100% salary according to German grade 13 TV-L. The postdoc will analyze long-term datasets to assess how agricultural diversification influences sustainability outcomes and resilience to shocks, synthesize global data across environmental, agronomic, and socioeconomic dimensions, lead the writing and publication of high-impact papers, and engage in international collaboration, including short-term visits to partners. Additional responsibilities include supporting the organization of workshops. Applicants must have a PhD in ecology, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or related fields, strong quantitative and analytical skills (with experience in R or similar software), demonstrated interest in agricultural diversification, sustainability, or social-ecological systems, excellent writing skills, and motivation to work in an interdisciplinary, international research environment. The University of Hohenheim encourages applications from female scientists and candidates with disabilities.
