Data science and clinical oncology

A fully funded PhD position is available at the intersection of artificial intelligence and clinical oncology, focusing on radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. The position is part of the AIM@cancer initiative, one of Denmark’s largest AI research efforts in healthcare, and is based at Odense University Hospital (OUH) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The project aims to develop advanced AI models to support decision-making before, during, and after radiotherapy, leveraging large-scale imaging and clinical data from Danish cancer patients. The research will involve collaboration with leading clinicians, physicists, and data scientists across national and international networks, including partners at Aarhus University, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The successful candidate will work on foundational AI models for medical imaging, with the goal of improving treatment outcomes and reducing side effects for cancer patients. Applicants should have a strong background in AI, data science, or medical imaging, and a relevant master's degree. The position is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Cancer Society, with recruitment expected to begin in late summer 2025.
