Postdoctoral Position in Translational Obesity and Metabolism Research (Tam Lab)

The Tam Lab at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a cutting-edge project in translational obesity and metabolism research. Located at the Ein Kerem campus, the lab is part of the School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacology, a leader in drug development, molecular medicine, and integrative biomedical research. The campus is a vibrant hub for medical and health-related education, adjacent to Hadassah Hospital and home to several healthcare programs. This postdoctoral position centers on the interface of diet, metabolism, behavior, and health, with a special focus on the endocannabinoid system—particularly the CB1 receptor—and its pharmacological modulation. The research aims to unravel how dietary quality, stress, and the gut-brain-periphery axis contribute to metabolic disorders such as obesity. The project utilizes advanced methodologies including behavioral models, omics analyses, and molecular biology techniques to decode the physiological mechanisms linking lifestyle and disease. As a member of the Tam Lab, you will engage in advanced investigations into metabolic regulation, diet-induced obesity, and pharmacological interventions targeting cannabinoid pathways. The role involves working with animal models, bioinformatics tools, and molecular assays, and is ideal for researchers passionate about bridging scientific discovery with therapeutic applications. The lab is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in translational metabolism research. Supervision is provided by Professor Joseph (Yossi) Tam, Director of the Multidisciplinary Center on Cannabinoid Research and a world-renowned expert in translational pharmacology and metabolism. Prof. Tam’s research has led to the identification of novel drug targets and innovative therapeutic strategies, and he is known for his mentorship and collaborative leadership. The position offers a monthly stipend of $2,500 USD. Applicants should hold a PhD in Biomedicine, Nutritional Biochemistry, Phytochemistry, or related fields, with a strong background in metabolism, behavior, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. Experience with animal experimentation and omics-based analysis is required, along with the ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary, international environment. Strong critical thinking, scientific communication, and translational insight are essential. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is a globally ranked top 100 institution, renowned for its research excellence and diverse academic community. The university fosters creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, welcoming students and researchers from over 90 countries. The city of Jerusalem offers a rich cultural and historical experience, with vibrant attractions and a dynamic student life. To apply, submit your letter of motivation, CV (including publications), and a copy of your academic degree(s) as three separate PDF files via academicpositions.com by December 16, 2025.
