Karolinska Institutet

Postdoctoral Researcher in Psychology

Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Psychology to join its Department of Psychology at Campus Solna, Stockholm. The research group focuses on how digital media, including computer games and social media, impact the mental health and development of children, adolescents, and young adults. A particular emphasis is placed on neuropsychiatric disabilities such as ADHD and autism, and strategies to support these individuals in educational and healthcare settings. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will collaborate closely with the research group leader, Dr. Lisa Thorell, and contribute to projects investigating the association between digital media and children’s development and health, as well as ADHD in girls. Your responsibilities will include literature searches, writing research reports, data collection, data analysis (quantitative and qualitative), and data processing. You will also conduct independent research within these areas and help supervise research assistants and thesis students in the group. The position is full-time and primarily based on site at the Department of Psychology. Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in psychology or a related field, completed by the time of employment decision. Preference is given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree within the last three years, though earlier completion may be considered for special reasons. Essential qualifications include authorship in international peer-reviewed journals and proficiency in quantitative data analysis using SPSS and/or R. Experience in qualitative analysis and research related to ADHD, developmental psychology, or digital media is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate excellent English language skills, both spoken and written, due to the group’s international collaborations. Knowledge of Swedish is beneficial but not mandatory. Personal qualities such as independence, initiative, sociability, and meticulousness are highly valued. Karolinska Institutet offers a creative and inspiring environment with broad expertise and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. As a state university, KI provides several benefits through its collective agreement. The position is a temporary, full-time contract with a monthly salary. The application deadline is March 22, 2026. To apply, submit your application online, including your PhD certificate, a complete resumé (with thesis defense date, thesis title, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, and distinctions/awards), a description of your statistical analysis experience, a complete list of publications, and a summary of your research work as a PhD student and your current work (maximum one page). Applications may be written in English or Swedish. For further information, contact Dr. Lisa Thorell at [email protected]. Join Karolinska Institutet and contribute to advancing research in psychology and improving mental health for all!
