PhD Opportunities in Veterinary Science, AI, and Cancer Biology for China Scholarship Council Applicants at University of Bristol

The University of Bristol's Veterinary School is offering four fully funded PhD opportunities for Chinese applicants through the China Scholarship Council (CSC) scheme. These projects are designed for students interested in advancing veterinary science, animal health, artificial intelligence, and cancer biology. The available research topics include: spatial immunophenotyping of the chicken respiratory tract to understand avian respiratory immunity to influenza virus infection; transforming veterinary diagnostics with AI, focusing on image-based approaches for infectious diseases and One Health applications; investigating the mechanism of induction of cancer stem cells during metastasis; and developing hybrid AI on wearables and video for fine-grained cattle behavioural monitoring to innovate precision livestock farming. The CSC-University of Bristol PhD Scholarship covers full tuition fees (provided by the University of Bristol), a monthly stipend (provided by the CSC), and a return international airfare. The scholarship is available for up to 48 months, and all recipients must return to China for two years after graduation. Applicants must be Chinese nationals and meet the University of Bristol's PhD entry requirements, including holding a relevant degree and a valid English language certificate at the time of application. Supervisors for these projects include Professor Andrew Dowsey, Dr Nobue Itasaki, and Dr Beatriz Vidana, all based at the University of Bristol. The research environment offers access to world-leading facilities and a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to tackling global challenges in animal health and One Health. The application deadline is 1 December 2025 (12 noon UK time). For more information and to apply, visit the University of Bristol's official CSC PhD scholarship page. These projects are ideal for students passionate about veterinary science, AI, cancer biology, immunology, and livestock monitoring. Successful candidates will join a vibrant research community and contribute to impactful research at the intersection of animal health and technology.
