PhD Positions in AI, Foundation Models, and Vision-Language Models at San Diego State University
Dr. Salimeh Sekeh, Associate Professor of Computer Science at San Diego State University (SDSU), is recruiting highly motivated PhD students to join her research team in the Sekeh Lab. The lab focuses on cutting-edge AI research, specifically in open world learning with foundation models, multi-expert reasoning for vision-language models (VLMs), and developing reliable and trustworthy AI systems. Two funded PhD positions are available for Fall 2026 admissions.
Applicants should have a master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor's degree and a strong research background will also be considered. Experience with analytical or experimental foundation models and vision-language models is advantageous, and a strong background in mathematics and programming is required.
SDSU is an R1 research institution, recognized for its strong engineering, science, and technology programs. The PhD program offers opportunities for collaboration through joint doctoral programs with UC-Irvine and UC-San Diego.
