Canada Impact+ Research Chair Positions in Advanced Materials, Digital Technologies, Health, Environment, and More at Western University
Western University in London, Canada, is inviting applications for several prestigious Canada Impact+ Research Chair positions. This unique opportunity is aimed at internationally based, world-leading researchers whose work has demonstrated major societal impact. The program is part of a one-time tri-agency initiative designed to attract top-tier research leaders to address critical national and global challenges across a range of strategic priority areas.
The strategic areas include Manufacturing and Advanced Materials, Clean Technology and Resource Value Chains, Advanced Digital Technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Cybersecurity), Health and Biotechnology, Environment and Climate Resilience (including the Arctic), Food and Water Security, Democratic and Community Resilience, and Defence and Dual-Use Technologies. Successful candidates will be expected to build ambitious, high-impact research programs with strong pathways to translation, commercialization, and industry engagement.
Chairholders will receive substantial long-term funding—either $8 million or $4 million over eight years, with a possible four-year extension at 50% of the initial per annum value. This support is designed to help establish transformative research programs, build and maintain exceptional research teams, and foster collaborations across sectors and borders. The program emphasizes both research excellence and tangible impact, with a focus on translating discoveries into real-world applications and benefits for Canada and the global community.
Eligibility is limited to internationally based candidates (including Canadian expatriates wishing to return) who are recognized leaders in their field. Applicants should have a proven track record of research excellence and societal impact. The application process is two-stage: initial application to the job posting, followed by institutional support for the formal nomination to the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs competition.
