Project Assistant (PhD Position) in Ancient and Modern Socio-Religious Practices

The University of Graz is offering a Project Assistant (PhD Position) within the Department of Classics, focused on the doctoral programme ‘Resonant Self-World Relations in Ancient and Modern Socio-Religious Practices’. This interdisciplinary programme invites candidates to pursue independent research and write a dissertation in the fields of history, political science, sociology, and/or gender studies. The position is part of a vibrant academic community dedicated to exploring the intersections of antiquity and modernity in a European context, with a particular emphasis on socio-religious practices and their resonance in contemporary society. As a doctoral candidate, you will engage in regular seminars, reading groups, and extracurricular events, as well as participate in conferences, including a final conference in September 2026. The role also involves collaboration on organisational and administrative tasks, event organisation, and public relations activities related to the project. The position provides an annual gross salary of at least €52,007.20 for a full-time role, with the possibility of overpayment based on qualifications and experience.
