About this position

The Evonik Foundation Scholarship, in collaboration with Professor Kirill Monakhov’s research group at the Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering (IOM), invites applications from outstanding and highly motivated students for Diploma, Master’s, and PhD theses. The scholarship supports research projects focused on new electrochemical routes or processes towards carbon neutrality, with a strong emphasis on electrochemistry, redox chemistry, inorganic synthesis, metal–oxo clusters, surface modification, microscopies, and nanoscience. Female candidates aspiring to become future scientific leaders are especially encouraged to apply.

The Evonik Foundation provides financial support and mentoring, aiming to foster talented young scientists. Funding for Master’s and Diploma theses is available for six months (250–600 Euro/month), while PhD projects receive two years of support (1,850 Euro/month) with the possibility of extension. Additional funding can be requested for specialist literature and conference attendance. Research must be conducted in a renowned, chemically-oriented group at a German university or non-university research institution.

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic achievements, financial need, and alignment of their research project with the annual focus. The application process involves contacting Professor Monakhov by January 31 to discuss project ideas and eligibility, followed by submission of a research summary to the Evonik Foundation by February 15. Selected candidates will be invited to submit a complete application, including a motivation letter, CV, research proposal, certificates, and a supervisor’s expert opinion. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will follow, with funding commencing in June at the earliest.

For more information, visit the Evonik Foundation website or contact [email protected]. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in advancing research in chemistry, materials science, and sustainable technologies within a leading German research environment.
