About this position

The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the SigCom research group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). Headed by Professor Symeon Chatzinotas, SigCom focuses on wireless and satellite communications, networking, and the development of future 6G communication networks. The group’s research encompasses areas such as network security, information assurance, cloud computing, cryptography, satellite systems, vehicular networks, and ICT services.

The successful candidate will advance research and experimental work in software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), and container-based network architectures. Responsibilities include defining innovative research directions, leading prototype design and implementation, collaborating on demonstrators and proof-of-concept systems, contributing to project proposals, publishing in top-tier journals, and engaging in outreach activities.

The role is supported by state-of-the-art facilities including the COMMLab, 6GSPACE Lab, HybridNetLab, QCILab, TelecomAI Lab, CSAT Lab, and simulation tools. Applicants must hold a PhD in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science/Engineering with a focus on SDN/NFV, and demonstrate strong expertise in SDN, orchestration, NFV, and container technologies. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, and related frameworks is essential, as is familiarity with network emulation/simulation environments and MANO platforms. Additional assets include knowledge of 5G/6G architectures, software engineering skills (C/C++, Python, Java, Go, Rust), a strong publication record, experience with industrial collaborations or public-funded projects, and international experience.

The position offers a fixed-term contract of 24 months, a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176, and a dynamic, multilingual, and international working environment. The University of Luxembourg is committed to gender parity, inclusion, and diversity. Applications should be submitted online and include a CV, cover letter, and publication list. Early applications are encouraged as review is ongoing.
