Key research activities include dynamic hormone profiling (e.g., U-RHYTHM), deploying next-generation biosensors for ambulatory patient assessment, conducting structured clinical phenotyping with endocrine diagnostics under varying salt intake and daily life stressors, and integrating wearable-derived physiological data (activity, heart rate, temperature) with endocrine test outcomes to identify diagnostic patterns. The candidate will contribute to multimodal datasets that support the broader development of digital diagnostic tools in endocrinology.

The research fields span endocrinology, chronobiology, digital health, medical sensors, systems physiology, and internal medicine. The project offers suggested secondments at the University of Ulm (algorithm development for wearable data), University of Manchester, and University of Bristol (mathematical modelling of hormone rhythms), providing opportunities for international collaboration and skill development.

Doctoral candidates will be enrolled in the structured PhD programme of the LMU Faculty of Medicine and participate in interdisciplinary training activities across the ENDOTRAIN network, including workshops, retreats, transferable skills courses, and cohort-wide meetings throughout Europe. The position is for three years, with the possibility of extension, and must be started by August 2026 at the latest.

Eligibility requires a Master’s degree in Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, Bioengineering, or a related field, with a strong interest in translational endocrinology and digital health technologies. Basic programming or data science skills (R, Python) and an interest in wearable data analysis are advantageous. Applicants must have excellent English language skills, strong communication abilities, and a capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration. Importantly, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Germany for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before recruitment and must meet LMU Munich PhD eligibility criteria.
