About this position

The International Max Planck Research School for Translational Psychiatry (IMPRS-TP) in Germany offers fully funded PhD positions in the fields of neuroscience and translational psychiatry. The program is designed for outstanding students interested in molecular, cellular, and systemic psychiatric research, and provides a unique opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. IMPRS-TP is a joint initiative involving the Max Planck Institutes of Psychiatry and Biological Intelligence, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Helmholtz Center Munich, University of Augsburg, and Technical University of Munich, with further collaborations with the Munich Medical Research School, Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences, and King’s College London. The curriculum includes core courses, lecture series, methods workshops, and transferable skills training, covering topics such as molecular and cellular neuroscience, behavioral assessments, electrophysiology, brain imaging, psychological and clinical measures, epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics, and scientific writing. Students are exposed to a wide range of scientific questions and methods, from molecular genetics in animal models to neuroimaging and computational approaches. In addition to traditional PhD positions, IMPRS-TP offers an integrated residency/PhD track for exceptional medical doctors, allowing them to gain research expertise while developing clinical skills. The program welcomes applications from candidates worldwide who hold a Master of Science or equivalent degree in a relevant field, or a Medical Degree. Trainee medical doctors with laboratory experience are particularly encouraged to apply. All applications must be submitted through the online application tool on the IMPRS-TP website; submissions by mail or email are not accepted. The next application window will open in Spring 2026.
