About this position

The Gen-Q doctoral training programme, coordinated by Eucor – The European Campus, is now accepting applications for its second call, offering 20 fully funded doctoral positions in Quantum Sciences and Technology. This international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral programme brings together leading European universities, including the University of Basel, Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, University of Haute-Alsace, University of Strasbourg, and University of Amsterdam. Each doctoral project spans 48 months and culminates in the award of a doctoral degree from one of the partner institutions.

Gen-Q is designed to foster the next generation of experts in quantum science and technology, establishing a sustainable model for European cooperation in education and research. The programme’s scientific orientation addresses four grand challenges: overcoming noise in quantum devices, scaling up complexity in qubits and sensors, developing quantum hardware, and advancing quantum software and hybrid computing. Research topics span quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum hardware, quantum software, materials science, physics, chemistry, computer science, electronics, and software engineering.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent that qualifies them for doctoral studies and must not already possess a doctoral degree. The programme is open to candidates of any nationality, but applicants must comply with the mobility rule: they must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the recruiting university for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding the deadline. All application documents must be submitted in English as a single PDF file, including a motivation letter, CV, reference letter (not from a future supervisor), ethics self-assessment (using the template provided), and a copy of the Master’s degree diploma or certificate. Transcripts alone are not sufficient.

The selection process is open, transparent, and merit-based, relying on international peer review. Candidates may apply for up to two topics, indicating their priority. Only applications submitted by 18 March 2026, 17:00 (Brussels time) will be considered. Incomplete applications will be disregarded without notice. For further details, applicants are encouraged to consult the guide for applicants and may contact potential supervisors for information about research topics, though supervisors do not participate in the recruitment process.

Gen-Q offers a unique opportunity to join a vibrant research community at the forefront of quantum science and technology, with access to world-class facilities and expertise across Europe. Successful candidates will benefit from interdisciplinary training, international collaboration, and exposure to both academic and non-academic sectors. Apply now to become part of this innovative programme and contribute to the advancement of quantum technologies.
