About this position
A PhD student scholarship aimed at the development of a nanoformulation for fluorescence guided tumour surgery is available at the University of South Australia’s Bioengineering group. The group is highly cross-disciplinary and focussed on translating technological advances in biomedical engineering towards improving outcomes for cancer patients. A living allowance scholarship of $35,200 per year and tuition waiver will be provided to the successful applicant. You will be living in Adelaide, which has been ranked the 11 th world's third most liveable city in2024 by The Economist global index .
There is a critical need for practice-redefining treatments that increase survival of brain cancer patients, and/or improve the quality of life of survivors. In this cross-disciplinary research project, our team is developing a novel highly fluorescent molecular imaging nanoformulation designed to specifically accumulate within brain tumour tissues and improve neurosurgery.
You will primarily work within the Future Industries Institute’s bioengineering lab, which is fully equipped for the preparation of nanoformulation, including molecular imaging agents. You will also have access to cutting-edge brain tumour preclinical models. You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team and industry partners with relevant expertise, providing you with a world-class research environment with excellent opportunities to progress successful outcomes to the clinical trialling phase. Through the collaboration with our industry partners Diagnostic Green and Ferronova’s R&D team, you will also gain knowledge in the GMP manufacturing of pharmaceutical and nanomedicine products. There is a shortage of these critical skills so you will be positioned for exciting career opportunities post-graduation.
Please e-mail your expression of interest to Prof Benjamin Thierry, including a CV and the names and contact information of three referees. Please indicate the project title in your email.
Candidates should have recently successfully passed an English language test or be able to demonstrate good level of English through research publications. Note due to the high number of applications, only short listed candidates will be contacted.
