About this position

OFFER: PhD STUDENT POSITION IN NEUROSCIENCE (until Oct 30th!) The laboratory of Synaptic Plasticity (Spine Lab) at the International University of Catalonia (UIC) is looking for a student interested in a doctoral thesis in the field of Neurosciences. We offer the possibility of joining a young group, associated with UIC-Barcelona and the Institute of Neurosciences, Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory. We want to understand which molecules are responsible for "saving" the information in our brain. We manipulate the activity of individual synapses using lasers, multiphoton microscopy, and photopharmacology tools (light-activated drugs). We also study how the plasticity of synapses is synchronized with brain waves, and how they are altered in neurodevelopmental diseases, such as those on the autism spectrum. We use gene manipulation techniques in cell cultures and tissues, and transgenic animal models of psychiatric diseases to develop brain mapping technologies and therapies based on photopharmacology. Requirements: We are looking for candidates willing to learn cutting-edge technologies and motivation to start a scientific career in biomedicine. We have funding for the project but not for the salary of the doctoral student. Still, we can obtain an internal predoctoral fellowship from UIC, and/or apply to the Joan Oró FI fellowship. Hence, we are looking for candidates with an official master's degree and a degree in Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy... with a degree grade > 7.0/10. Experience in molecular and cellular biology, neurobiology and microscopy will be highly valued. A good level of English is required. Date of incorporation in case of fellowship acceptance: January 16th 2025. The fellowship offers a standard salary for doctoral students, a high-level PhD training program, and a stimulating scientific and university environment, with young scientists and new and well-equipped facilities (Basic Sciences Dept., UIC; technology facilities, Inc-UAB). If you are interested, please send your CV and an interest/motivation letter to: [email protected]://lnkd.in/e-rTcaFs…more
