About this position
University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is advertising PhD and postdoctoral positions in the research group of Marius Mader, Principal Investigator and Clinician Scientist, for an ERC Starting Grant project in Neuro-Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy.
The project focuses on developing and preclinically evaluating next-generation cell therapies for malignant brain tumors, with a particular emphasis on pediatric high-grade gliomas and microglia replacement strategies. The work is based at the Research Institute Children's Cancer Center Hamburg on the UKE campus and offers a stimulating, supportive, and highly collaborative environment.
PhD position: The PhD role is aimed at exceptionally motivated candidates with a completed scientific university degree in the natural sciences such as molecular medicine, biology, or neuroscience. The post includes hands-on work in advanced in vivo and molecular techniques, cell culture, mouse experiments, and the opportunity to join a structured PhD program. The position is part-time (65%) and initially limited to three years.
Postdoc position: The postdoctoral role is for a candidate with a completed PhD in a relevant field such as neuro-oncology, neuroscience, or neuroimmunology. The postdoc is expected to design and drive independent research projects, develop innovative experimental strategies, analyze complex datasets, publish in leading journals, and mentor junior researchers. The position is initially limited to two years and may be extended.
Eligibility highlights: Strong motivation, excellent teamwork and communication, flexibility, initiative, and a high level of scientific rigor are emphasized for both roles. For the PhD, prior experience in neuro-oncology/neuroimmunology, cell culture, molecular biology, mouse work, and R or bioinformatics skills are preferred. For the postdoc, a strong publication record, proficiency in cell culture and molecular biology, and substantial mouse/in vivo experience are essential, with advanced bioinformatics skills preferred. Very good English is required for both positions.
Funding and conditions: Both positions are ERC-funded and offer compensation according to TVöD/VKA. The post mentions a secure employment environment, onboarding, training opportunities, and family-friendly workplace benefits. Employment is contingent on proof of measles immunization or immunity.
Application window: The closing date for both vacancies is 2026-05-04. Interested candidates should apply through the official UKE job portal links provided in the post.
