About this position
Two exciting research positions are open in the group of Dr. Pooja Gupta, Group Leader in Bioinformatics at the Department of Stem Cell Biology, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen, Germany. These roles are part of a BMFTR-funded project titled “AI-Driven Multi-Omics Integration for Predicting IBD-PD Comorbidity Progression”, focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence, multi-omics, and disease biology, with applications to Parkinson’s disease (PD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Postdoctoral Researcher: The postdoc will develop and apply advanced AI models (such as graph neural networks and variational autoencoders) for integrative analysis of multi-omics data, construct and analyze molecular interaction networks, perform biomarker discovery, and collaborate with clinicians and experimental scientists. Requirements include a PhD in a relevant field, strong machine learning and statistical modeling skills, experience with multi-omics data, proficiency in Python/R and deep learning frameworks, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
PhD Position: The PhD student will analyze large-scale transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic datasets, implement machine learning models for disease subtyping and biomarker discovery, and work closely with clinicians and wet-lab researchers. Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a quantitative field, programming skills in Python and/or R, a strong foundation in statistics and machine learning, and prior experience with high-throughput biological data.
Both positions offer a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment, access to state-of-the-art computational infrastructure, and opportunities for professional development. Employment is fully funded according to the TV-L collective agreement, with additional benefits such as pension coverage, structured onboarding, and health promotion programs. The application deadlines are April 30, 2026 (postdoc) and April 31, 2026 (PhD). For more information and to apply, visit the official university job portal or contact Dr. Pooja Gupta.
