The University of Vienna is seeking a PhD candidate to join the Faculty of Life Sciences, specifically in the Group of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Hummel at the Department of Neuroscience and Developmental Biology. The research group focuses on the analysis of neuronal networks in the Drosophila brain, offering a collaborative environment with postdocs, pre-docs, master students, and administrative staff who share a passion for understanding nervous system function. The successful candidate will be embedded in the Vienna Doctoral School in Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience (VDS CoBeNe), which emphasizes quality assurance in PhD training and promotes interdisciplinary knowledge exchange. Responsibilities include planning and executing empirical studies, publishing research results in international journals, presenting findings at conferences, participating in new research project acquisition, and contributing to group administration and teaching. The candidate will conduct research related to neuronal networks in Drosophila, work on their dissertation, engage in teaching, help organize academic events, and collaborate with international experts in trauma and traumatic sequelae. Applicants must hold a Master's or Diploma degree in biology and have experience in scientific writing, molecular-genetic research methods, didactic skills, strong IT proficiency (including MS Office and Photoshop), high-resolution confocal imaging, basic programming skills, and excellent knowledge of Drosophila genetics.
