The successful candidate will use state-of-the-art X-ray imaging to investigate microstructure and porosity formation mechanisms in aluminium alloys, driving advances in metal manufacturing and supporting Europe's transition to a greener, circular economy. The PhD involves collaboration with global experts, secondments at Constellium (France) and RMIT University (Australia), and enrolment in doctoral schools at University of Kassel (Germany) and RMIT University. A varied pedagogical training programme is provided throughout the 3-year project.
Applicants must hold a relevant MSc or equivalent degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, or a closely related field. Proof of diploma and English proficiency (B2 level) are required. Experience in experimentation, X-ray imaging, metallurgy, and programming is advantageous. Manual skills and attention to detail are essential.
