About this position
The Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) School of Business and Governance, Department of Business Administration, invites applications for a 4-year PhD position focused on AI-Driven Financial and Non-Financial Reporting. This research opportunity centers on the thesis topic: “AI-Enabled Financial and ESG Reporting: Effects on Corporate Accountability and Disclosure Quality in the EU and China.” The project aims to explore the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on both financial and non-financial reporting, with particular emphasis on ESG disclosures, corporate accountability, and regulatory adaptation across global jurisdictions.
Supervised by Associate Professor Tarmo Kadak and Visiting Professor Jiri Strouhal, the PhD student will conduct qualitative and quantitative research examining AI’s role in reporting accuracy, predictive analytics, stakeholder engagement, and ethical challenges such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and transparency. The research will contribute to critical debates on transparency, ethical frameworks, and risk management in corporate reporting, ensuring alignment with robust ethical standards.
Responsibilities include conducting independent academic research culminating in a doctoral dissertation, collaborating with faculty and other PhD students, publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and participating in departmental activities. The candidate will also engage in small-scale teaching and supervision, and actively contribute to the research environment at TalTech.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, strong writing and analytical skills, a genuine interest in AI and digitization, excellent English communication skills, and working knowledge of statistics. Experience with quantitative research methodology is required; qualitative research and data analysis experience are beneficial. Applicants should submit an initial research plan outlining their strategy and theoretical approach.
TalTech offers a vibrant international research environment with approximately 9,000 students and 2,000 employees. The university is a leader in digitalisation within the EU, providing opportunities for conference visits, research stays, and networking with top universities and research centers. The campus is compact and green, with a low hierarchy, academic freedom, and a balanced work-life culture. PhD positions are guaranteed a gross income of at least 2300 EUR per month and Estonian national health insurance.
To apply, candidates should submit their application via Academic Positions or directly by email to [email protected], including CV, motivation letter, degree certificates, research plan, and passport copy. For further information, contact the supervisors or visit the department and PhD admission webpages. The application deadline is April 17, 2026.
