About this position

Join the Structured Nanophotonics Group at Monash University, led by ARC Future Fellow Dr Haoran Ren, for a PhD project at the forefront of nanophotonics and applied physics. The group’s research explores the multi-dimensional nature of light and controlled light-matter interactions at the nanoscale, with applications spanning quantum nanophotonic chips, structured-light imaging and spectroscopy, meta-optics and meta-waveguides, 2D materials, lightwave valleytronics, and machine-learning-based imaging processing.

As a PhD student, you will have the opportunity to contribute to breakthrough experiments and innovative designs in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. The group’s work is highly interdisciplinary, combining advanced optical physics, materials science, and computational techniques to address fundamental and applied challenges in photonics. Projects may involve experimental nanofabrication, optical characterization, and the development of new photonic devices and imaging methods.

Monash University offers a vibrant research community and access to state-of-the-art facilities. The Structured Nanophotonics Group is committed to fostering creativity and scientific excellence, providing mentorship and support for students interested in pushing the boundaries of light-based technologies.

Eligibility requires a first-class Honours or equivalent degree in physics, materials science, or a closely related discipline. Candidates with experience in optics, photonics, nanofabrication, spectroscopy, or machine learning are encouraged to apply. English language proficiency is required as per university standards.

To learn more about available projects and application procedures, visit the Monash University postgraduate project portal or contact Dr Haoran Ren directly at [email protected]. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and interested candidates are encouraged to reach out for further details or alternative opportunities.
