About this position

Join the Translational Neuroinflammation research group at the University Medical Center Göttingen for a fully funded PhD position focused on neuroimmunology and autoimmune central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The project investigates the role of regulatory B cells and antigen-presenting cells in animal models of autoimmune CNS diseases, with a particular emphasis on anti-NMDAR encephalitis. You will employ hands-on flow cytometry, animal and in vitro experiments, and explore potential new treatments for neuroinflammatory and demyelinating diseases.

The research group, led by Professor Martin Weber, bridges basic immunology, experimental neuroscience, and translational research, offering a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of antibody-driven neuroimmunology. The project utilizes novel active immunization mouse models to study endogenous immune mechanisms and aims to identify new approaches for immune modulation and repair in CNS autoimmunity. You will have access to the TRR 274 Checkpoints of Central Nervous System Recovery network and state-of-the-art facilities, as well as a supportive, dynamic environment with strong mentorship and guidance.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Immunology, Neuroscience, Biology, Molecular Medicine, or a related field, and demonstrate a strong interest in neuroimmunology, autoimmunity, and disease-oriented research. Experience with murine disease models and cellular or molecular biology techniques is advantageous but not required. Proficiency in English, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.
