This position is funded for 36 months and focuses on the environmental impact of rocket engine emissions on the atmosphere and climate.
The research project investigates the propagation of rocket engine plumes and their influence on atmospheric layers, aiming to assess the climatic effects of exhaust gases released during launch vehicle flights. Key objectives include defining interface regions, conducting numerical analyses of plume propagation near the nozzle outlet, performing multiscale simulations of exhaust expansion in various atmospheric layers, and developing models to process data for climate impact assessments. The expected outcomes are a robust numerical model for temporal and spatial dispersion of engine exhausts and parameters for calculating regional atmospheric effects.
As part of the SLICE network, the successful candidate will benefit from international collaboration, including secondments at CERFACS (Toulouse, France) and IPSL (Guyancourt, France), focusing on numerical model adaptation and plume-in-grid simulations. The position offers a competitive salary according to MSCA regulations, with living, mobility, and family allowances, as well as funding for training, conference participation, and secondments. Employer contributions to social security and health insurance are provided in accordance with German regulations.
Applicants must hold an MSc or equivalent in aerospace engineering, physics, or a related field, with strong knowledge in physical and analytical chemistry, computer science (numerical analysis, simulation, CFD), product and process engineering, condensed matter physics, and applied physics. Additional skills in EcoDesign, climate sciences, life-cycle assessment, and project management are advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate excellent English communication skills, the ability to work independently and in teams, and readiness to travel for network activities. Eligibility to enroll in a PhD program at TU Dresden and compliance with the Horizon Europe MSCA Mobility Rule and Eligibility Criteria are mandatory.

Excellent problem-solving skills, proactive attitude, and strong communication skills in English (written and verbal) are essential.
