About this position

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is inviting applications for several fully funded PhD positions at the Department of Accounting. The department is internationally recognized for its research and teaching in financial accounting, management accounting and control, auditing, and corporate governance, covering both public and private sectors. Research at the department spans a wide range of topics, including the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on accounting and auditing, accounting theory, financial statement analysis, cost and management accounting, management control, accounting information systems, and more. At least one of the available PhD positions will focus specifically on the influence of new technologies such as AI on auditing and/or accounting issues.

PhD students at CBS will join a vibrant, international research environment and will be expected to participate in international conferences and spend time at another research institution as a visiting PhD student. The three-year PhD programme includes research-related coursework and teaching responsibilities (416 hours over three years). Graduates of the CBS PhD programme are highly regarded in academia, government, and business sectors.

Applicants should have a strong academic background, with a completed master’s degree (3+2 Bologna process), a high grade for their master’s thesis (10 or equivalent on the Danish 7-point scale), and a strong overall GPA (8.2 for combined bachelor’s and master’s, or 9.5 for master’s alone). If the GPA requirement is not met, documentation of being in the top 40% of the class is accepted. Proficiency in academic English (written and spoken) is required. The application must include a five-page project description outlining an original research question, theoretical framework, methodology, proposed empirical material, and a three-year work plan. Additional required documents include a cover letter, diplomas and transcripts, documentation of class ranking (if needed), CV, publication list (if any), and a sample of written work.

The PhD scholarships are fully salaried positions, with a monthly salary ranging from DKK 29,691.75 to DKK 36,180 depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution of 18.07%. The scholarship covers tuition fees, office space, and research-related travel and course costs. Employment and salary are in accordance with the Danish national collective agreement for academics.

Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Head of Department Carsten Rohde ([email protected]) or PhD coordinator Professor Peer Skærbæk ([email protected]) to discuss research ideas and obtain further information. For more details about the department and the PhD programme, visit the CBS website. Applications must be submitted online by 19 December 2025, including all required documents. CBS is committed to diversity and encourages applications from all qualified candidates regardless of background.
