The Department of Learning in Engineering Sciences at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, is inviting applications for two fully funded PhD positions focused on artificial intelligence (AI), learning sciences, and STEM education. The research will be conducted within the LEaP (Learning, Education and Pedagogy) research group, which brings together expertise in pedagogy, technology, mathematics, and computer science. The projects are part of national research schools and collaborations with Uppsala University and the University of Gävle, targeting the impact of generative AI on teachers' work environments, professional roles, and the future of teacher education.

One position will investigate how generative AI affects teachers' work, responsibilities, and competence needs, with research themes including AI's influence on teaching content and organization, ethics, professional judgment, and digital competence. The other position will focus on didactics in STEM education, cognitive science, digital learning environments, and the integration of AI in teaching, aiming to strengthen Swedish teacher education and address declining student interest in STEM subjects.

Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field and demonstrate proficiency in both English and Swedish. Selection criteria include the ability to work independently, collaborate, maintain professionalism, and analyze complex issues. Personal qualities are highly valued. The positions are fully funded, offering a monthly salary according to KTH's doctoral student salary agreement, full-time employment for up to four years, and access to KTH's employment benefits. Doctoral students may also engage in teaching or administrative duties up to 20% of their time.
