PhD Project: Anti-Tumor Immunity – From Mechanisms to Therapies in Translational Medicine Heidelberg University in Germany

This PhD project at Heidelberg University, offered through the HBIGS Heidelberg Biosciences International Graduate School, focuses on anti-tumor immunity and translational medicine. The research aims to investigate the mechanistic basis of a specific immune cell type that suppresses tumor growth, leveraging these insights to modulate immune cells and inhibit tumor progression. The project utilizes proteomic analyses to identify mechanistic leads, which will be systematically examined for their functional roles. Single-cell RNA sequencing will be employed to provide a comprehensive view of the immune response against cancer.

Research activities will combine in vitro studies using primary immune cells and cell lines with exploratory and confirmatory in vivo experiments in mouse models. This interdisciplinary project offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of mechanistic immunology and translational cancer research, learn state-of-the-art techniques, and contribute independently to the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

Applicants should have a Master degree or equivalent in biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field, and demonstrate motivation, scientific rigor, and critical thinking. The salary is set according to DFG guidelines for doctoral researchers in biology (65% TVöD).
