About this position

This PhD Research Fellow position is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (ENDOTRAIN), hosted at the University of Athens in collaboration with Evangelismos General Hospital, Greece. The project focuses on the development and application of digital tools and biomarkers for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with adrenal tumors, integrating advanced sensor technology, AI, omics, and clinical medicine to transform the management of adrenal diseases.

ENDOTRAIN is Europe’s first doctoral network in digital endocrinology, aiming to train a new generation of interdisciplinary experts who merge clinical endocrinology, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, ethics, and law. The programme uses adrenal disorders as a case study to advance digital health in Europe, with this position contributing to Work Package 1: Hormone Dynamics. The research will investigate how cortisol levels affect tissue glucose, blood pressure, and sleep, correlating these with patient-reported data. Key tasks include conducting a case–control study, collecting wearable sensor data and hormone profiles, integrating physiological data with dynamic hormone profiling and proteomics, and contributing to the development of digital diagnostic tools. Collaboration with other doctoral candidates and participation in ENDOTRAIN training courses and workshops are expected.

Secondments are planned at the University of Ulm (Germany) for algorithms in wearable data analysis and at the University of Manchester (UK) for mathematical modeling of hormone rhythms, providing international exposure and networking opportunities. The position is fully funded by the European Commission (MSCA Doctoral Network Endotrain, Grant No: 101227148), including salary, travel, and career development support.

Applicants must hold a Medical Degree (MD) and a master’s degree (or equivalent) enabling doctoral studies, with a strong interest in adrenal tumors, endocrinology, and intensive care medicine. Basic data analysis skills and excellent English proficiency are required. Eligibility rules include not having resided or carried out a main activity in Greece for more than 12 months in the past 36 months before the PhD start date, and not already holding a doctoral degree. Diversity and inclusion are core values of the programme, with encouragement for women, people with immigrant backgrounds, and people with disabilities to apply.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the structured PhD programme of the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and will benefit from a vibrant international research environment, interdisciplinary training, and career development opportunities. The application deadline is 15th February 2026, with a latest start date in August 2026. For further details, visit the ENDOTRAIN webpages or contact the primary supervisor, Prof. Dimitra Vassiliadi ([email protected]).

To apply, submit your application via the Jobbnorge portal, including all mandatory attachments: Application form, CV, Mobility declaration, and Motivation Letter. Ensure your master's degree documentation is provided or a statement of expected completion. For HR-related questions, contact the host institutions. This is a unique opportunity to join a cutting-edge European doctoral network and contribute to the future of digital medicine.
