About this position
The University of Luxembourg, a modern and international research university, is offering a postdoctoral position in AI Development for Telecommunication Systems within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). The successful candidate will join the SIGCOM Research Group, led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, and collaborate with Prof. Eva Lagunas and Dr. Vu Nguyen Ha. The group focuses on wireless and satellite communications, networking, and the design and analysis of future 6G networks supporting digital ecosystems.
Research areas include network security, information assurance, cloud computing, cryptography, vehicular networks, and ICT services. The position centers on integrating advanced AI techniques—such as Foundation Models, Generative AI, Federated and Decentralized Learning, Neurosymbolic and Hybrid AI, and Self-Supervised Learning—into wireless communications and edge computing systems. Technical enablers involve semantic data processing, signal processing, and network resource management, leveraging AI/machine learning, graph theory, and optimization for large-scale, heterogeneous 6G networks.
Key responsibilities include developing adaptive, AI-driven embedded algorithms for real-time analytics and decision-making in IoT, wireless communication, and remote sensing systems. The candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the TelecomAI Lab to integrate AI models into advanced telecommunication architectures and support lab activities related to AI implementation across embedded and edge computing platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, FPGA, neuromorphic chips). Dissemination of research through publications and presentations at top-tier venues is expected, along with outreach activities.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a strong publication record in applied AI. Required expertise includes time-series analytics, IoT, wireless communication, semantic communication, edge intelligence, and resource optimization. Hands-on experience in machine learning (Deep Reinforcement Learning, DNNs/CNNs, Federated Learning, Generative AI, semantic-aware models, explainable AI), proficiency in Python and PyTorch, and experience with Edge AI platforms are highly valued. Industrial collaboration and international experience are desirable. Fluency in English is required.
The University offers a fixed-term contract for 24 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176. The institution is multilingual, dynamic, and committed to inclusion and gender parity. Applications should be submitted online via the HR system, including CV, academic background, thesis summaries, publication list, cover letter, motivation, and research interests. Early applications are encouraged, and email submissions will not be considered. For further details, visit the SIGCOM group page or use the application link provided.
