About this position

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the growth of low dimensional materials for thermal management, based at the Laboratory of Electronics Material and Systems within the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience. The department is renowned for its pioneering research in quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics, and advanced electronic systems, fostering collaborations across academia, industry, and society. The Electronics Materials and Systems Laboratory focuses on advanced materials and microsystems, with research spanning carbon-based materials, bioelectronic microsystems, unconventional computing, liquid crystals, and nanomaterials for applications including thermal management, neural interfaces, energy harvesting, and optics.

The research project centers on developing integrated cooling and heat dissipation solutions using low-dimensional materials such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride, and carbon nanotubes for power module cooling. The successful candidate will grow and characterize 1D and 2D materials for thermal management applications, employing chip last or chip first concepts in collaboration with EU project partners. Responsibilities include contributing to the supervision of master’s and PhD students and potentially engaging in teaching at undergraduate or master’s level. The position offers a vibrant, international research environment with access to world-class nanofabrication facilities and is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Thermal Science and Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, or Nanotechnology by the time of employment. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required, along with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Experience in clean room processes (PECVD, TCVD, ALD, E-Beam) and more than four years in the growth of low dimensional materials is highly desirable. Material characterization and chemical functionalization experience are considered advantageous. Teaching experience is preferred.

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, with generous employee benefits, including parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for international staff.

To apply, submit your application via the online form by 2026-04-20. Attach your CV, publication list, teaching experience, and a personal letter outlining your research background and goals. Incomplete applications or those sent by email will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview. For questions, contact Professor Per Lundgren at [email protected].

Chalmers University of Technology is a leading institution in technology and natural sciences, with a strong commitment to scientific excellence, sustainability, and innovation. Founded in 1829, Chalmers continues to advance knowledge and technical solutions for a sustainable world.
