About this position

The Centre for Integrative Biology of Toulouse (CBI), affiliated with CNRS and Université Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher specializing in metagenomic analyses and bioinformatics. The successful candidate will join the Microbial Ecology & Evolution group led by Associate Professor Olaya Rendueles. The group investigates the ecology and evolution of microbial social interactions, focusing on competition, cooperation, and horizontal gene transfer mediated by mobile genetic elements such as plasmids and phages. Research models include gram-negative enterobacteria, particularly Klebsiella pneumoniae, a key opportunistic pathogen and MDR bacterium.

The postdoc will analyze metagenomic datasets to study the diversity, abundance, and dynamics of mobile genetic elements across various environments, identifying ecological and environmental factors influencing their spread. Responsibilities include assembling and annotating metagenomic data, characterizing mobile genetic elements, performing statistical analyses, integrating computational and experimental results, and presenting findings in scientific forums. The position requires a PhD in Bioinformatics or Microbiology, with strong experience in metagenomic and comparative genomic analyses, proficiency in Linux/Unix and programming (Python, R, Bash), and excellent English communication skills. A background in microbial ecology or host–microbe interactions and experience integrating experimental and computational data are desirable.

The CBI is a multidisciplinary research center with approximately 400 scientists, offering a vibrant scientific environment and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Research at CBI spans structural biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, microbiology, and computational biology. Toulouse is an attractive city with a large student population, rich cultural life, and easy access to nature.
