About this position
The University of Luxembourg, a modern and international research university, is offering a postdoctoral position in SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) and situational awareness for robotics. The successful candidate will join the Automation & Robotics Research Group (ARG) within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), contributing to advanced research in perception, situational understanding, and autonomous systems. The research group is led by Dr. Jose Luis Sanchez-Lopez and Prof. Holger Voos, both recognized experts in robotics and automation.
This postdoc role focuses on developing and implementing innovative solutions in SLAM, situational awareness, computer vision, machine learning, and robotics. The candidate will validate research through real datasets and experiments on state-of-the-art robotic platforms, and disseminate findings via publications in top-tier journals and conferences such as IEEE RA-L, Elsevier RAS, ICRA, and IROS. Responsibilities also include leading research projects, preparing deliverables, collaborating with stakeholders, and contributing to research proposals for industry partnerships and European grant funding. The postdoc will mentor PhD students and co-author publications, fostering a collaborative and high-impact research environment.
Applicants should have a strong research background in SLAM, robotics, computer vision, machine learning, or related fields, with a proven publication record in leading conferences and journals. Essential skills include a solid mathematical foundation, practical robotics experience, and proficiency in Python and/or C++. Familiarity with robotics frameworks (ROS), optimization-based frameworks (GTSAM, G2O), computer vision tools (OpenCV), and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) is required. Experience with industry or publicly funded research projects is highly desirable. Candidates must demonstrate fluent English communication skills and possess soft skills such as motivation, creativity, and teamwork.
The University of Luxembourg offers a fixed-term contract for 24 months, with a competitive yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176. The institution is known for its multilingual and international character, modern facilities, and strong ties to industry and European institutions. The campus provides a dynamic and inclusive environment, welcoming staff from over 90 countries and promoting equality and respect for all employees and students.
To apply, candidates must submit an online application through the University of Luxembourg HR system, including a full CV, academic qualifications, publication list, research and technical skills description, contact details for two referees, and a cover letter. Optionally, applicants may include a short video introduction. Early applications are encouraged, as review will begin upon receipt. Applications by email will not be considered.
This is an excellent opportunity for motivated researchers to advance the state-of-the-art in robotics and autonomous systems, collaborate with leading experts, and contribute to impactful projects in a vibrant European research environment.
