About this position
Join the RE:HOME project as a junior postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University’s Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, a world-class research centre in the Netherlands. This position focuses on developing smart, personalised home-rehabilitation technology for children with neurological conditions, in collaboration with international partners from France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The project is funded by Interreg North-West Europe (NWE), aiming to improve quality of life and well-being through innovative healthcare solutions.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to building and testing a rehabilitation platform that enables safe and controlled home rehabilitation, using personalised feedback and health data monitoring. Your work will involve developing algorithms for monitoring and assessing perception and motor behaviour in both hospital and home settings, with a strong emphasis on sensorimotor integration within the perception-action cycle. Patient studies will be conducted to explain human functioning, understand disorders, and test new technologies.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues at the Donders Institute and the Sint Maartenskliniek, a rehabilitation hospital in Nijmegen. Responsibilities may include management, mentoring (PhD, MSc, and BSc students), and teaching-related tasks. The sensorimotor research group, led by Prof. Pieter Medendorp, investigates neural mechanisms of perceptual processing, motor control, and sensorimotor integration, drawing on psychology, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and related disciplines.
Radboud University offers a temporary employment contract of 22 months, with a gross monthly salary between €4,728 and €6,433, an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and extra days off. Full-time employees can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave. Additional benefits include flexible working hours, reimbursement for sports membership, a 34% discount on sports and cultural activities, a pension plan, and various training and development schemes.
The Donders Institute is internationally recognized for its excellent research environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and collaborative, multidisciplinary staff. English is the working language. The Faculty of Social Sciences at Radboud University focuses on humanity and society, with research and education organized into clusters such as Psychology, Artificial Intelligence, Pedagogical Sciences, Communication Science, Sociology, and Cultural Anthropology.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field (sensorimotor neuroscience, human movement sciences, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, computational neuroscience), have experience in probabilistic and/or other modeling approaches to sensorimotor control, and possess strong social, communication, and organizational skills. Experience with behavioral and patient studies and student supervision is advantageous. The application deadline is 31 March 2026, with interviews scheduled for April and a preferred start date of 1 September 2026.
To apply, submit your application online via the provided link, addressing your letter to Prof. Pieter Medendorp. Ensure all required documents are included. For further information, contact Prof. Medendorp at [email protected].
