About this position
The University of Augsburg is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics with a focus on single-cell and multi-omics data analysis at the Augsburg Bioinformatics Core Facility. The position is affiliated with the Modeling and Simulation of Biological Processes Lab, which integrates quantitative systems modeling with advanced AI and machine learning approaches to identify novel therapeutic strategies for cancer and other diseases. The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians, researchers, and interdisciplinary teams on translational research projects, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as single-cell sequencing and deep learning to decode complex disease mechanisms and improve patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities include scientific and organizational contributions to the core facility, single-cell sequencing data analysis (e.g., scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq), analysis of bulk NGS data, proactive consultation and support of research projects, development and application of bioinformatic workflows, contribution to data integration approaches, documentation and quality assurance of analysis pipelines, teaching and training, and support of scientific publications through high-quality data analysis and visualization.
Applicants must have a completed PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, data science, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in single-cell sequencing data analysis. Required skills include programming in Python and/or R, experience with bioinformatics tools and workflow management systems, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, HPC environments, and large-scale data analysis. Very good command of English and basic knowledge of German are required.
The position offers opportunities for independent work and leadership, intellectual ownership, access to state-of-the-art technologies, flexible and family-friendly working conditions, and employment according to pay grade A13 under public-sector regulations. The initial appointment is for three years as a civil servant, with the option for tenure. The University of Augsburg promotes gender equality and supports applicants with disabilities.
