Description

This postdoctoral position at INSA Rennes, France, is part of the ADVHANDTURE project, which aims to advance the design of 3D interaction techniques in virtual reality (VR) using ultrasound mid-air haptic (UMH) interfaces. The project addresses the challenge of delivering compelling tactile sensations in immersive environments, leveraging a multidisciplinary approach that combines human perception, haptics, VR mechanics, and 3D interaction research. The successful candidate will focus on several key research areas: designing novel 3D interaction techniques using UMH for visuo-haptic feedback, developing methods for UMH rendering based on the biomechanical properties of the hand, characterizing UMH perception through physiological measurements, and creating robotics solutions to enhance UMH use in VR. The position is ideal for researchers with a strong background in haptics, neuroscience, computer science, and virtual reality, as well as experience in conducting perceptual experiments and data analysis. INSA Rennes is the largest public engineering school in Brittany, with a vibrant research environment and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The postdoc is funded through the Horizon Europe program and offers a 12-month full-time contract, with salary and benefits according to French public research sector standards. The position is based in Rennes, a dynamic city in the Bretagne region of France. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in engineering, computer science, neuroscience, or a related field. Proficiency in both English and French is required. The application process involves submitting a cover letter, CV, and references to Prof. Maud Marchal at INSA Rennes. The deadline for applications is 17 December 2025, with the position starting as soon as possible from 5 January 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the official INSA Rennes recruitment portal or contact the supervisors directly via the provided email addresses.
