About this position

The Sustainable Real Estate Innovation Lab (SuRE In Lab) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join its multidisciplinary team. This position is integral to the ongoing research project, “Sustainable Tourism Development: Blueprint for a Green Luxury Yacht Cluster in the Tétouan Region.” The successful candidate will play a key role in conceptualizing and analyzing sustainable models for luxury yachting and coastal tourism development in northern Morocco, supporting the lab’s mission to advance innovative, sustainable, and territorially integrated approaches to real estate and coastal development.

The postdoctoral researcher will design and execute a dedicated work package on the Blue Economy and Yachting Value Chain, focusing on regional value chains connected to tourism, nautical services, and shipbuilding/repair. Responsibilities include detailed mapping and analysis of the blue economy value chain, with emphasis on marine and coastal tourism, nautical and marina-based services, and yachting operations. The role involves identifying strengths, gaps, innovation drivers, and strategic opportunities for sustainable development in the region.

Additional tasks include assessing the regional economic impact of tourism and nautical services, evaluating socio-economic spillovers at the territorial level, and analyzing the economic and industrial dynamics of the yachting industry. The researcher will explore green innovation pathways for yacht manufacturing and maintenance, and evaluate how yachting, nautical services, and coastal tourism contribute to sustainable territorial development, real estate and infrastructure planning, and regional competitiveness.

The position requires producing scientific publications, technical reports, value chain analyses, and policy briefs, as well as contributing to the lab’s research agenda on sustainable coastal development, responsible tourism, and territorial innovation. The researcher will engage with regional authorities, marina managers, shipyards, tourism operators, and industry stakeholders, and support the design of new research proposals. Capacity building and dissemination activities, including presenting results in academic and policy forums and coordinating seminars, are also part of the role.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, expertise in at least two key areas (such as coastal tourism development or yachting industry), and a strong research background. Proficiency in English and French is required, with Italian as an asset. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of blue economy, tourism, and territorial development in a dynamic academic environment.
