About this position

Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental psychology. The position is based in the Division of Psychology, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, under the leadership of Mats J. Olsson. The research group focuses on the body's behavioral defenses against disease, investigating rapid and cost-effective first-line responses that promote adaptive behavior in relation to sick kin and strangers.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will join a dynamic, international, and creative environment, contributing to top-level research. Your work will primarily involve experimental design, both in real life and web-based settings, to study physiological (including fMRI and immune response markers), perceptual, motivational, and emotional processes. You will collaborate with the team to plan and conduct experiments, develop analysis plans, perform statistical analyses, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

The position is full-time, temporary for two years, with the possibility of extension. Karolinska Institutet offers a creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests, fostering crossover collaborations that drive global research excellence. Employees benefit from the university's collective agreement, which provides several advantages.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent foreign degree in psychology, human behavioral ecology, cognitive science, neuroscience, biomedicine, or an allied discipline. Preference is given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree within the last three years, though earlier completion may be considered for special reasons. Experience in conducting experiments, data management, biological sample collection and analysis, and research in behavioral defense and perception of social cues is meritorious. Excellent English skills in speaking and writing are required; good Swedish skills are advantageous. Personal qualities such as independence, structure, and teamwork are highly valued.

To apply, submit your application through the Varbi recruitment system, including a PhD certificate, complete resumé, list of publications, and a summary of current work (maximum one page) in English or Swedish. The deadline for applications is April 16, 2026. For further information, contact Mats J. Olsson ([email protected]).
